If "Arts" is all on people's opinion, then can "Art" be the worst "area of knowledge"?

what i call an "art" u may dislike it and say its full of cr@p,,

that means "art" depends on people's opinion and perspective,, its how we look at it,,rather than how it is,,

and most importantly,,the one who creates an "art" is more important than the "art" itself (u definately have to agree with this). so "art" doesn't have its identity,,

does this make "Arts" the worst "area of knowledge"?

If "Arts" is all on people's opinion, then can "Art" be the worst "area of knowledge"?
The arts are defined by parameters that the common man knows little about.

Beauty is NOT in the eye of the beholder. It is a TAUGHT and LEARNT thing.

One's personal tastes are in the eye of the beholder.

We can call anything art but is it a valuable art? Is it beautiful? You have to study the field in order to understand the work. You have to know what you are looking for in order to appreciate it as well. I go the the mall and I see poster art for sale of some of the most terrible treacle ...but it sells to the tastes of the lowest common denominator!!! It is art, but it is not good art, and the tastes of the men and women who buy it state the level of education they have in the field. It doesn't say that they are stupid ...it says that the modern taste of art style today is very poor. Other wise the dealers wouldn't be making money on it, if they aren't making money on it then they don't sell it.

"Arts" is not people's opinion. Their personal TASTES in art is their opinion. And if their taste is poor and uneducated then it will reflect in all their house hold.

If there is some semblance of knowledge in design and beauty it will reflect in their lives and when someone has an education in the visual arts then it will show in the manner of their personal tastes as well.

What you call art is as valid as what I call art but the difference is going to depend on your education and my education in the field and it will tell whether the tastes you have is classical or otherwise. And yes the artist is more important than the work but there is a classifacation to all the visual arts. That is where it's identity lays.

The arts have always been the forerunner of the sciences, we artists in one area or another have always brought technology a step further than the normal we always have been a league ahead of the rest of the world. That is as a whole, not the individuals of the field.
Reply:yes i agree
Reply:You are trying to make a conditional argument, and while the form is valid the premises are false. Art is not all people's opinion, If everyone thought that the Mona Lisa was a horrible piece of art that would not make it true. Error is possible in evaluating art. Additionally art is not dependent on the creator of the work, the relationship is a direct one but hardly necessary. It sounds like you have a personal issue with a piece of artistic work who the person who created, this is not a good reason to become an aesthetic relativist.
Reply:Its not my opinion that love exists, it just does. Science is useful for a lot of things but does a pretty darn useless job of explaining love. I'd rather leave that to a poet.

Its not my opinion that religion exists, it just does. Its a phenomenom, that can't can't be explained by science.

There are both objective truths and subjective truths and they require different methods of inquiry.

As far as the 'worst area of knowledge', I'd rather go to a concert than a physics lecture any day. (though I do enjoy physics too, I just prefer music)
Reply:Art is not really that. Although it stoped short of being a science. For instance, if you sit and write a poem, then I might find it cool, but someone else might think that it was terrible. You think at the selections that were made that the art was not knowledge. Not like maybe the speed of sound or colors of the rainbow. But so very creative. Art is not knowledge as in the knowledge of science, but it is knowledge of creativity and creation or the isolate of human thinking and theater.
Reply:Isn't knowledge the consensus of the majority over one view or idea. Until it is refuted .
Reply:There are some relatively objective elements in art that make it important and valuable. But if you truly like something, by all means, keep on exploring it. I have found that some art that I am drawn to immediately is shallow.
