i always wanted to be an art teacher (for elementary school) and illustrator when i grow up. and i been thinking of college alot lately, and have some questions on it. if u can't answer all of them can u please answer atleast one of them? thank you in advance
1. would it be better to go to an art college, or a normal college and major in art, or a liberal arts college? would there really be a difference in the "level" of how much stuff i learn about art?
2. have you ever heard of kendall art school in michigan?
3.what do art colleges require in admission? i know they want portfolios, but not sure what to put in there, and do they have essays? do they really care about ACT SAT scores, and grades on report card, or are their eyes fully shifted toward the portfolio?
4. is there a requirement for the classes i take in highschool for art colleges, just as for normal colleges?
5. any other info on majoring in art will be truely appreciated.
thanks again for taking ur time
Quetions on majoring in art for college?
Art Schools are better (Savannah College of Art and Design is really good) - not liberal arts or regular college. Art Schools tend to have a much better art program.
Take as many honors and AP classes in high school as you can (art schools tend to be selective and your transcript will make a difference). They use everything that regular colleges do, they simply require an art portfolio in addition to the other things.
I know this is probably common sense, but make the best use out of your high school's Art department (take every art class possible whether it be photography, regular art, or whatever else). Because I guarantee you that you'll have to do it all if you want to do art in college.
