Fine art (painting) students...?

Which college/university has the best BA/MFA fine arts program for painting? I am debating between these: San Francisco Art Institute, California College of the Arts, Academy of Art University. Serious answers only.

Fine art (painting) students...?
I actually have the official list for this and is:

Yale University

School of the Art Institute- of Chicago

San Francisco Art Institute.

The San Francisco Art Institute is # 13 in MFA and California Institute of the Arts is #04 over all. not specifically in painting.

Hope this helps.

Take care.
Reply:SFAI is pretty good. My husband is going there for Grad school this year. I don't put much stock in Yale's painting program, prestigious as the school is. We looked at Yale for grad programs, and I would have been embarrased to show any of the grad student paintings they had on display. MICA is really good. Have you looked into their program at all?
Reply:It would greatly depend on you as an artist and the area of study you wish to pursue. I chose a school in Missouri over a lot of others. I chose Kansas city art institute because of their small class size and more hands on training. The studies are also taught by artists not teachers.

So my suggestion would be to view the schools as how you view your artwork and what you want to do with it. Each school has its ups and downs, but Art is like a trade skill and you want to go where you will be trained better, not just what looks better on paper. You could graduate from a prestigious school but if you learned very little on how to develop your artwork then you are no better than if you had chose not to go.

Ask yourself if you want to be an artist or if you want a good job when you finish. If you want a good job then focus on the school which will get you the job. If you want to be an artist then focus on your art and align it will the school.
Reply:I know it's not on your list, and it seems like you want to be on the west coast, but the School of the Art Institute of Chicago is amazing. I now wish I had gone there but when I was first entering college I wanted more of a liberal arts education.

I did meet with recruiters and such from SAIC and everything they told and everything I have seen since just makes me so jealous. Every year the SAIC has a big show that the students can enter and I've checked it out and there is serious talent there. Not to mention Chicago, while it is not New York, has a great art scene. I've only been to California a few times so I unfortunately can't say much for them except that I have heard excellent things about San Fran Art Inst.

Good luck on your college search.
Reply:the ans is san francisco art institute.
