Art for the anxious?

Hi I have a lot of stress in my life. I have heard that channeling anxious energy into something productive and beautiful such as art could be very therapeutic. I love art especially colorful art- looking at it that is. I dont feel particularly "artistic." Are there any cool kinds of art that i can do at home with little cost that could be beautiful enough to display at my home? Any ideas would be great!

Art for the anxious?
A good starting point for any artist is Acrylic painting. Since cost is an issue, you can buy student grade paint in small tubes for about $2-$3 a tube. Start with basic colors: Titanium white, alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue, and cadmium yellow. With these colors you can mix a multitude of colors. Buy a paper palette some cheap acrylic brushes (2 flats and 2 rounds), and all you'll need is some water to clean your brushes and a small cheap canvas. Acrylic is great because it drys so quickly that you can easily cover up any mistakes or parts of a painting you don't like. A good tip for painting with acrylics is to use a spray bottle to spray a mist over your paint every few minutes to keep your paint fresh while you're painting. They're also non toxic, don't smell, and are water soluble.

Also, I find painting to be the most theraputic of arts, because of how physical you can be with the paint brush when you mix paints and on the canvas. You can really work out that nervous energy and frustration and still create something beautiful! Good luck and paint something that you'll love and can hang up!!
Reply:go to the local craft store in your area like michaels or hobby lobby and attend some of their classes, they're free and you can do cool things, while you're there you can also buy books that can give you some ideas too. good luck and remember that art can be anything you want it to be!
Reply:-Silk Screening is pretty easy. There are a lot of tutorials on how to do it online. Cutting out the stencils can be quite relaxing. Just be sure not to cut your hand. Get a cutting mat and new blades for your xacto. You can even use spray paint for the stencils.

-Acrylic painting is really easy to do. Since it dries so fast the pay off is great. Texture is easily attainted.

-Oil can take a couple of days to dry depending on much oil paint you use. Oil acts similar to acrylic, but it can be layered on and on. It can be modified easier than acrylic.

-I love using gauche. Each bottle is pretty expensive, but it's very beautiful. It's acts like ink and dries very flat. Dilute with water to your desired preference.

-Water color is really cheap. It can be something tedious especially if you're a beginner. But attaining really widespread beautiful colors is easy and fun.

-Crayons, graphite pencils, and color pencils are very easy to get into. There's a wealth of color to choose from. This is great for creating artwork that you don't want to get messy with. I can get lost drawing and coloring. It's meticulous and I find myself in meditation with these the most. You could pack it up and take it anywhere. You could also combine it with other art media like water color. Try it if you find that painting is not your thing.

-Pastels, oil crayons, and charcoal are quite fun. They tend to be very messy and expensive. They are really fun if you want to go nuts. It takes a high level of talent to perfect it, but it pays off.

-Experiment. Don't tie yourself don't to one idea. Mix and match mediums to find different results.

-Remember to have fun. There are so many tools in the trade to play with ($$$). Stick to the ones that fit your lifestyle and personality.

-Sculpture, photography, etc. There are other forms of art out there.

-If you decide you want to paint but don't want to spend a whole lot of money. You can stick to the colors red, blue, yellow, black, and white. Then you can mix the colors to your desired color. Buy a painting or color theory book if you don't know how to mix already.
