Art? a required class? 2 questions in 1?

i have to do a speech persuading my college class that art should be a required class.





so my first question for ya'll is: Should high school students be required to take at least one year of art?

For my speech i have to have 2 peer reviewed journals, found on EbsoHost that can be used to relate to my speech. My profesor suggested looking for info on how art has an influence on science, the difference in art and science in the U.S. vs. other countries.





i personaly can't find much. can anyone find anything i might be able to use?

i dont think it should be required but it is at my school atleast for the advanced diploma..already took it though in 9th grade =]
Reply:I think high schooler should take one year of art because it teaches a high school student in how to be creative because at times projects for academics require a lot of creativity. It makes your mind think on how to build something or construct something together. Also it makes a student more well rouned.





If it's a persuasive speech you don't have to persuade about how art has an influence in science unless you had to sign up for a specific topic like the persuading about art and science. If you just said Art in the beginning as your topic then you could change it. It sounds to me that this art and science thing is your thesis. My English teacher said that papers change and you could change it up to millions of times up to when the paper or in your case the speech is due. But it really depends on your teacher. since you can't find much info on it. I'd ask your teacher is it okay to persuade about something else about art like those high school students that should have it. At my high school it is required to take some form of art already for one entire year. There can be 10 people with the topic of art and even if there for it. There will be 10 different speechs.

i took 3 years of Graphic Design


but it didnt count..


this "Art" you take in high school is either music classes or Drama Classes





i took 2 semester one of guitar and the other of keyboard
Reply:I'll answer the first question, yes I think it should. Students need some sorta of artistic knowledge because it helps with creativity which can and probably will be used further on in life.
Reply:yup yup..i think its actually pretty fun! yes its a required class and ive taken it for the last 3 years in high school.
